Recruitment and Promotional Materials
SIG Membership Applications – SIG Quick Join Form and SIG websites – Announcements in MemberNet – ACM Awareness at SIG Conferences Online and PDF membership applications for individual SIGs are available for member recruitment at SIG Applications – PDF forms, each providing a brief description of the SIG, and relevant pricing information. These applications can be included in your SIG newsletter, conference programs, conference proceedings, workshops, conference registration areas, and conference registration bags, to name a few. ACM maintains a standalone Quick Join form for joining SIGs at Link to this site from your SIG homepage for easy access to SIG membership join form. MemberNet, ACM's monthly online newsletter, offers opportunities to announce SIG news, programs, and events. Notify your SIG Program Director/Coordinator if you have a submission for an upcoming issue, or send directly to Many ACM marketing materials reference the SIGs. These include: ACM Membership Application – includes listing of SIGs and their prices, used widely at ACM Headquarters. PDFs available from the Memberships webpages on acm.org. ACM Renewal Guide – concise list of SIGs and their prices (sent with the 2nd print renewal notice). Online renewal forms also offer links to more information on joining. Subscriber Guide – ACM SIG list with pricing and ordering information, sent to non-ACM member subscribers to an ACM publication or SIG. We promote ACM and SIG membership at many SIG conferences each year by providing custom applications and a premium into conference registration bags. We send these materials to many of the larger conferences and to new conferences.

PR & Media Outreach Support
Review & edit press releases Provide counsel on distribution of releases Prepare listings of press contacts Distribute press releases via Meltwater and EurekAlert! Research media coverage & provide press clippings Media outreach for select SIG conferences In addition to the internal communications, we can provide external communications support, including: Reviewing & editing press releases and media advisories ACM distributes several press releases a month on topics including ACM Awards, policy initiatives, and select conferences Because of our familiarity with the tech media and the styles and formats they prefer, we can review your press releases for style and potential to generate interest with journalists. Providing advice and counsel on distributing press releases ACM uses Meltwater, a distribution service that includes a database of tech media journalists and outlets around the world Journalists tend to change beats often ACM has also built up geographic and topic lists of media We can share, or help prepare media lists for SIGS We can also research media coverage of your announcements and provide press clippings EurekaAlert! is another effective distribution channel that ACM uses. EurekaAlert! is a service of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). To take advantage of any of these services, please contact me.

Social Media Best Practice
Keep posts punchy, but descriptive. Include photos whenever possible. Shorten URLs (Ow.ly or Bit.ly) Use hashtags… sparingly. Use preview tools (Open Graph, Twitter Cards) Learn from Twitter and Facebook analytics Keep up with best practices! On all networks, write snappy and conversational posts that get at the heart of what you’re sharing and why it’s of interest to your followers. Think sharability, even when posting content that is technical in nature. Use photos with your posts. Content with photos gets significantly more traction on social, so whenever possible, separately upload a relevant photo from the content you are sharing to the post. Use open graph debugger and Twitter Card preview to see what a shared link will look like when shared on social. Include hashtags with your posts, but sparingly. No more than 2 hashtags in a tweet, and 1 in a Facebook post. Conference hashtags: Every conference should have an official hashtag. Use this exclusively in posts about a conference to both encourage and focus conversation on a topic. Use native analytics in Facebook and Twitter to see what kind of content your audience is engaging with. Look at top tweets and posts over a given time period, see what kind of content works.
