Chemical Reactions
2
5 types of reactions: Combination/Synthesis Decomposition
Combustion Single Displacement Double Displacement
3
Double displacement reactions occur when cations from each reactant swap places to form ionic compounds with the opposing anions. AB + CD AD + CB Examples: KCl + AgNO3 AgCl + KNO3 Ca(OH)2 + HCl H2O + CaCl2
4
Combustion reactions can be identified from the following indicators:
Oxygen is always a reactant Often release heat and light as they occur Carbon dioxide and water are products Examples: C3H8 + O2 CO2 + H2O
5
Practice C2H4 + O2 CO2 + H2O Combustion
6
Practice NaBr + H3PO4 Na3PO4 + HBr Double Displacement
7
Ca(OH)2 + Al2(SO4)3 CaSO4 + Al(OH)3
Practice Ca(OH)2 + Al2(SO4)3 CaSO4 + Al(OH)3 Double Displacement
