Huck’s Pokeville adventures Chapters 19-20

Summary Ch. 19 -Huck and Jim are travelling down the river.
-They discover two gentlemen running away from their pursuers. -The gentlemen tell what they were doing to be pursued by a mob. -The gentlemen claim to be a duke and king. -Huck and Jim go with the lies and wait on them / let them be a bunch of dirty liars.

H Summary Ch. 20 -Huck lies about his father, brother, and why he is with Jim. -The “Duke” and “king” get friendly and decide different ways to raise funds for themselves. -The “King” claims to be a pirate and lies to a group of religious gatherers. -The “duke” prints out many different flyers and a wanted poster for Jim, so that they can travel during the daytime.

Lessons and Developments
- More cognitive, less impulsive. - How to distinguish truths from lies. - Developed a more passive personality in regards to outside situations. - Allow others the have their own way.

Educational and Developmental Motivations
-Let people have their way. (Floating on the the raft with the strangers) -Huck is able to put together the inconsistencies of the “Duke’s” and the “King’s” claims. -Let the people in the religious gathering believe the lies of the “King.” -Let “king” and “Duke” be like kings and dukes

What Evidence is Shown about the Learned Lesson?
-The “King” lies about being a pirate -He knows that the king and duke are frauds -“It didn’t take me long to make up my mind that these liars warn’t no kings nor dukes,at all, but just low-down humbugs and frauds”(Twain 128).

Literary Analyses Diction: lovely, smooth, nice, fresh sweet.
Tone: leasuresom and enjoyable Imagery: “...a steamboat slipping along in the dark...she would belch a whole world of sparks...they would rain down in the river”(Twain 122). Romantic: Man is governed by emotion: Huck interprets things in his own way. Imagery/Personification
