2. Simple sentence A good rain will help the farmers.
Contains one independent clause and NO subordinate clause
EXAMPLES

3. Sometimes. . .
The simple sentence has two subjects (compound subject) and one verb:
EXAMPLE
Chalupas and fajitas are two popular Mexicn dishes. (Formula S S V)
The simple sentence has one subject and two verbs:
EXAMPLE:
Kelly read the Planet of the Apes and reported on it last week. (Formula S V V)

4. Find the subject and verb in each sentence
Her mother went to the trade show.
The radio crackled with static and then went out.
Louis and Connie have been baking bread.
Gina and Dave picked the wildflowers.
The clown made a face and popped a balloon.
The boat nosed up to the dock.
The child burst into laughter.

5. The compound sentence
Contains two or more independent clauses and no subordinate clauses.
EXAMPLE
A variety of fruits and vegetables should be a part of everyone’s diet, for they supply important vitamins.
The independents clauses of a compound sentence are usually joined by a COMMA and a COORDINATING conjunction: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so (FANBOYS)

6. Sometimes. . . Sheena did not play soccer; she had sprained her ankle
Independent clauses in a compound sentence can be joined by a semicolon (;) only:
EXAMPLE:
Sheena did not play soccer; she had sprained her ankle
Compound sentences contain these formulas:

The Amazon River is located in South America and is one of the longest rivers in the world.
The Amazon begins in Peru, and it flows across Brazil to the Atlantic Ocean.

The Amazon is actually a network of several rivers, but most people think of these combined rivers as one river.
