Extreme nationalism – pride in country Idea that your own country cannot lose Imperialism Wanting more land that others might want Militarism – building up military Trying to make your military bigger & scarier than others Alliance system - <KEY REASON> European powers formed rival alliances to protect themselves PROBLEM? One event could drag all countries involved into a conflict.
