INTRODUCTION Make it Home Safely is dedicated to keeping our young drivers alive by improving road safety awareness. The project has been written by a lady whose sister survived a traffic crash though never made a meaningful recovery and has resided in care for the past 25 years.

THE HIDDEN TOLL 243 Queensland road death toll for 2015 – Queensland hospitalised casualties for 2013 – More than Queenslanders are expected to acquire a brain injury. Of them 4,000 develop a serious disability. Motor vehicle accidents will be responsible for of traumatic brain injury. Of this number 70% will involve young people aged between years. Two thirds of them will be male. of the Australian population is estimated to have developed a brain injury related to the effects of alcohol and/or drug abuse. 6,936 11,000 70% 16-24 2%

I LOVE MONDAYS What are some of the potential impacts if you say no to someone who is about to do the wrong thing? Eg.Getting into a car and driving after drinking. Texting and driving whilst you are the passenger.

IS IT WORTH IT?

Is confined to a wheelchair and can’t get anywhere without assistance
Needs assistance with speech and someone to hold the phone for a conversation Has a seatbelt around her at all times unless she is in bed to prevent her from slipping out of her wheelchair/regency chair Can only eat pureed food and drink thickened fluids and is dependent on someone to feed her when they are ready Has medication daily to prevent spasms and muscular tension Sleeps in her chair when tired as she is dependent on others to put her to bed Requires hoists and assistance to be transferred to the toilet and for a daily shower Can’t get outside and has no access to activities unless someone takes her Can’t turn on or change the TV channel
