William Randolph Hearst (The Journal) Joseph Pulitzer (The World)

5 Hearst realized that sex sells newspapers—as Cubans were fighting for their independence from Spain, he ran this picture—an event that never happened

6 In fact, the Cuban Revolution was made for yellow journalists!
The Cubans looked like the “good guys,” the Spanish like the “bad guys” It reminded us of our own Revolution American businessmen had big investments (sugar, coffee, tobacco) in Cuba
