3 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” 11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

4 1. Why was this Jesus’ first miracle. 2
1. Why was this Jesus’ first miracle? 2. Why not healing or at least feeding thousands? 3. How did this miracle reveal glory? 4. Disciples put their faith in him!

5 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) 16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.

6 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.
Our view of grace it TOO SMALL! OT, Incarnation, Life, Death, Resurrection, In-dwelling of Holy Spirit If the Good news was only about Jesus’ death, then the gospels would each be about 3 chapters. They’re not. Grace is bigger, than our view of it.

7 I would never do something like this?
A golden calf? Really? I would never do something like this? What is the purpose of this story? We think of Grace as release from OT Law. We are wrong. Comparing: I’m not like that. / Like acts in a play. You wouldn’t watch the last act in a play and be satisfied. There is so much more available to us, more knowledge of God by having the OT.

8 Hebrews 1:1-3 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. INCARNATION

9 Hebrews 4:14-16 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. INCARNATION

Life of Jesus Example “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” John 13:15 Compassion for people Goes to be by himself to pray. Invested in others. Many123 “Jesus wept” Jesus “deeply moved” came to the tomb Teaching John 14:23 – Obeying = Jesus’ “home” Matt 7:24 – Listening = wisdom

11 “I can’t do what?” - If this is how we view commands we are missing the point. - Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil - Tent=shelter, home, place of safety and rest

12 Further Impact of Jesus After Life Romans 12 1 Cor
Further Impact of Jesus After Life Romans 12 1 Cor Greek: “charisma” grace = charis “To bend or stoop in kindness to an inferior.” Spiritual Gifts

13 Death Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Romans 5:1-2, 10

14 - If Grace ONLY cleanses us from sin, we will die “not guilty.”
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, - If Grace ONLY cleanses us from sin, we will die “not guilty.”

15 Resurrection 21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” 5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Not only is sin not held against us but it paves the way for eternity with Christ

16 Spirit 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. - What has your attention? - Grace is more than forgiveness OF sins. It is forgiveness TO life!

17 “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” 1. Why was this Jesus’ first miracle? 2.
