2 Sitophilus oryzae (bubuk/kutu beras/rice weevil)

3 Symptoms of damage Both grub and adults cause the damage. Grains are hollowed out; kernels are reduced to mere powder. S. oryzae starts its attack in field itself. Adults cut circular holes. Heating takes place during heavy infestation, which is known as ‘dry heating’.

4 Female deposit eggs inside grains (chew grains and make holes)

Damage broken or damaged grains(bijirin) If its in flour(Tepung), the flour will become dan bergintil-gintil

7 Control for both species
Sanitation: uninfested grains should not be placed in sacks previously used in grain storage unless been sterilized by heat or fumigation Regular fogging/aerosol spray with pyrethrum (for beetles) Fumigation with methyl bromide or ethylene dibromide or carbon tetrachloride Tablet or pellet form of aluminium phosphide can be applied to bags or bulk grain during loading
