DATE DATE Level 2 and 3 questions In Question Cornell notes (from class) Out question Why we’re doing this- getting used to reading non-fiction books. Introduction to the scientific way of thinking. Guided notes Lab report Practice Homework

4 Volume /28/12 1) Volume is the amount of space an object takes up 2) Irregular object- Water displacement in a graduated cylinder Boxy object- V = L x W x H 3) Liters measure liquid volume. (A ml is the same as a cm3) 1) What is volume? 2) How do I measure volume? 3) What is the metric unit for volume?

5 CALCULATING VOLUME You have a BOTTLE OF NAIL POLISH and want to find out it’s volume. The graduated cylinder has 10ml of water to begin with. After you add the nail polish the water goes up to 55ml (look at the meniscus) What is the volume of the nail polish? GIVE EXAMPLES SHOW HOW TO MEASURE

6 CALCULATING VOLUME You have a book and want to find out it’s volume.
Volume = L x W x H L= 10cm W = 5cm H = 2cm What is the volume of the book? GIVE EXAMPLES SHOW HOW TO MEASURE

7 Calculate the volume of the following
A rock raised the level of liquid in a cylinder from 10ml to 43ml. A ring raised the level of liquid in a cylinder from 5ml to 16ml. A marble raised the level of liquid in a cylinder from 20ml to 94ml A chapstick raised the level of liquid in a cylinder from 15ml to 62ml A box with dimensions 1cm x 2cm x 3cm. A book with dimensions 3cm x 4cm x 6cm. A CD with dimensions 6cm x 6cm x 2cm A DVD with dimensions 10cm x 7cm x 3cm

8 Exit slip A rock raised the level of liquid in a cylinder from 10ml to 16ml. A rock raised the level of liquid in a cylinder from 20ml to 48ml A rock raised the level of liquid in a cylinder from 15ml to 62ml A book with dimensions 1cm x 6cm x 3cm. A book with dimensions 3cm x 7cm x 5cm.
