5. Water Controls Land Use
Major agricultural regions irrigate with underground water. Includes U.S., China, & India
Overpumping of aquifers leads to a dry well
Limited Water or No water means inability to grow crops.
ITS HAPPENING ALREADY!
Middle East – like Saudi Arabia, Yemen – grain production is declining

6. Photosynthetic Limit
In 40% of the world’s grain production, farmers have reached the limit on yield
There is enough water & enough nutrients
Photosynthetic Limit is constraint we have no answer for.

7. More Meat Eaters! Increased Affluence = ability to buy & eat more meat
Particularly true in China
½ of world pork is eaten in China
More Meat Eaters means the need for More Grain to Feed the Animals Being Eaten
Worldwide the annual growth in demand for grain is greater now than at any other point in history.
