1 China is Losing a War Over Internet

2 Censorship The Chinese government is closing thousands of Internet sites They are tightening rules on who can register Web addresses. This is happening because they don’t want children to have access to inappropriate websites.

4 The Internet The internet has helped the people in China to have more access to information of today. It gives them more ability to communicate with others and express their ideas.

5 The government’s plan In 2003, China announced a large-scale plan to regulate the Internet called the Golden Shield Project. The purpose of this project was to let public- security officials do online monitoring. A web filtering software was put into all computers in China (Green Dam Youth Escort).

6 People’s Response The people of China feel that they should be able to voice their own opinions online and that they should be able to find out the news from more than one source to hear different views.

8 Conclusion “Censorship is more sophisticated, and its capacity is very powerful, but it is full of loopholes. As the government tries to close them, the main result is to create more resistance and backlash from Chinese Internet users. They are creating a whole lot more enemies to the censorship system.”- Mr. Xiao
