Staff completed Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) National Emergency Management Advanced Academy Staff completed local and state certified emergency training: Incident Command System, Emergency Operation Center, and Agency Representative Staff conducted a Government Emergency Telecommunication Service drill June Update - Staff provided valuable paratransit insight at the Silver Jackets Army Corp of Engineers exercise discussing the potential flooding of the Whittier Narrows Dam and LA River. - Staff participated in two SoCal Catastrophic Earthquake Plan workshops with local, region, state, and federal partners. - Access Staff has provided or will provide, an emergency preparedness update at all 6 of the Community Meetings. - Access monitored 3 wildfire incidents (Stone Fire in Agua Dulce, South Fire in Santa Clarita, and Portola Fire in Beverly Hills).

Emergency Incidents Responded to Incidents
July 7, 2018, Los Angeles Emergency Management Department requested Access’ assistance to evacuate and transport 11 disabled residents from the Rehabilitation Centre of Beverly Hills due to power outage Developed an After Action report to evaluate Access’ response Monitored Incidents and Events Wild and brush fires Excessive heat warning areas June: Stone Fire in Agua Dulce, South Fire in Santa Clarita, and Portola Fire in Beverly Hills July: Irwindale Santa Fe Fire, Burbank Fire, Irwindale Santa Fe Fire, and Pico Fire in Stevenson Ranch

Excessive Heat Preparedness
Excessive Heat and Heat Waves When temperatures exceed 100 degrees in the suburban valleys and 110 degrees in the low dessert areas Heat-wave emergencies can strike very quickly Can cause illness or death due to heat injuries from exposure to high temperatures Heat Injuries Sunburn, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke Symptoms of Dehydration and Heat cramps Dizziness, fatigue, faintness, headaches, muscle cramps and increased thirst

How to prevent heat injuries Avoid the sun Drink plenty of fluids especially water Replace salt and minerals after sweating Pace yourself while exercising or walking Wear appropriate clothing Stay cool indoors during peak hours from 10:00 am to 3:00pm Monitor those at high risks Use sun screen Keep pets indoors or in a cool shaded area Make sure pets have plenty of water
