“Astroparticles: the Energetic Elite of the Universe” Presented by Vitor de Souza IFSC, University of Sao Paolo
Ultrahigh energy particles are the energetic elite of the Universe because they accumulate huge amounts of the energy from the media where they were created and they escape from the acceleration region and travel through the Cosmos. In this talk, I will discuss some of the open questions about the highest energy (E > 10^{18} eV) cosmic rays. The recent advances in the experimental techniques and theory are presented as well as the next challenges. Special attention is given to the cosmic ray mass composition and its consequences. We also discuss the connection between the production of TeV gamma-rays and charged particles and we will show how the multimessenger approach is the only possible way to solve the present puzzles.
