2 MAIN IDEAS Geography The region of Nubia had connections with Egypt.
Government A powerful king of Kush conquered Egypt and ruled as pharaoh. Economics Meroë was an important economic center linking Egypt and the interior of Africa.

4 Cultural Relations Between Egypt and Kush

5 Political/Commercial Relations w/ Egypt
EQ: How were Kush & Egypt related politically, commercially, & culturally? Political/Commercial Relations w/ Egypt Piankhi united Kush & Egypt, became Egyptʼs pharaoh, but lived in Napata, Kush. Nubia was rich in goods scarce in Egypt (ivory, animal skins, wood). Spread Egyptian goods, culture in Africa and beyond. He is noted in the Bible in 2 Kings 19:9; Isaiah 37:9 as Tirhakah, king of Ethiopia, who waged war against Sennacherib during the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah and drove him from his intention of destroying Jerusalem and deporting its inhabitants—a critical action that, according to Henry T. Aubin, has shaped the Western world (Aubin 2003).
