2. Regional
Highlights
Update on progress, challenges and successes - members can be encouraged, pleased and proud of our region.

3. ICE North West - Looking back
Darrell Matthews appointed as Regional Director and has started to provide the committee with direction and support.
Business Plan in place providing some strategic direction for our committees and providing three objectives for us to focus on.

Speak out on big issues
We also welcomed Keith, Daniel, Alan and Joanna to the Regional Committee. Our thanks to them for their continued involvement.
Jeff Ashurst was appointed to Council to join Peter Hallsworth who continues with his role representing the North West. Unfortunately John Beck is no longer a Council member but he continues to support the ICE North West and is seeking re-election.
We also hosted a modest but effective Presidential visit that included Liverpool and Carlisle.

4. The visit ended with our Awards Dinner in Carlisle which was sold out with a record amount of sponsorship. The event was able to showcase the very best of civil engineers and our work right here in the North West.
We Introduced two new key awards – The Diversity Award and the Heritage Award.
Both have been beneficial to the region:
The Diversity Award has helped to position the Northwest at the forefront of this important debate. This position is supported by the formation of our very own Diversity SIG.
The Heritage Award resulted in fantastic media coverage, including BBC News. With even the nomination process helping us reach a wider public audience.

5. Currently planning greater focus on supporting new members and engaging with them more directly via welcome events.
At the other end of the scale, later this month we’ll be holding our first event specifically for retired members drawing on ICE’s coffee shop foundations.
We have instigated a new targeted approach to fellowship to help grow numbers – first session with prospective fellows was successful, with future ones in the calendar.
Continued ongoing support for The This is Civil Engineering Campaign to help raise profile across members and the public with key sites such as the Mersey Gateway, Smart Motorways and Heysham by-pass on board.

6. Growing membership:
The Membership Team North has continued to develop its effective programme of company visits and surgeries to companies expressing an interest in working closer with the ICE.
Overall, Membership has shown a slight increase with some particular gains in terms of technicians – 17% increase - and new graduates - 32% increase. We are now well placed to take advantage of our position in 2016/17.

8. ICE’s branches and SIGs organised more than 70 technical knowledge meetings reaching around 4,000 members and increasingly, we are making more use of digital tools so that more events can be recorded.
The RST and membership teams organised a similar number of events including training sessions, workshops, mock reviews, fellows’ events and SCE forums etc.
Our Law and Contract course was fully booked once again, and we already have a waiting list for this year’s course

9. Pre-19 activities – over 48 activities including key activites such as the Big Bang, Aintree as well as numerous school visits undertaken by our team of volunteers.
We now have our very own Bridge to Schools kit located with our partners at Catalyst Science Discovery Centre, Runcorn, which as many of you will appreciate, is right next to the new Mersey Gateway Crossing construction site.
We are now looking forward to Joanna Bateman’s input into our pre-19 push in Joanna has done more than anyone anticipated following her successful application to become the Chairman’s Apprentice by becoming our Educational Co-ordinator.
