5. Reading & Evidence-Based Writing Spring 2017
Beginning in Spring 2017, students will take the 5-question section of the ELA test that contains the extended writing prompt on day 1 of testing.
Old ELA section 3
Within this section, students read two short passages, answer 3 multiple- choice and 1 constructed-response items, and then answer an extended- writing prompt.
The structure of this section remains the same – only the order of administration has changed.
This decision was made based on feedback as well as to allow additional time for scoring.

7. Online vs. Paper/Pencil
Online is considered ‘standard’ – goal is to have 100% of students in Georgia testing online in the next couple of year.
99.9% of our students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will be testing on the computer this year.
Process went very smoothly last year and during our practice sessions this week.

Evidence-Based Selected-Response (EBSR) Items for English Language Arts – a two-part multiple-choice item that requires students to complete both parts
First part answers inferential or key concept question related to text. Includes one correct response
Second part is evidence from the text used to support the inference or idea. May include one or more correct response(s)
Two-point score value with opportunity for partial credit. Part One and Two must be correct to receive 2-Points. One-Point if only Part One is correct.

Student performance on the reading portion of the ELA test will be used to provide a grade level reading determination:
Below Grade Level or On/Above Grade Level
Students who receive Reading and Vocabulary domain designation of Below Grade Level need remediation and are to retest in ELA.

18. Interpreting Scores Promotion/Retention
Mathematics – Grades 5 and 8
Students must achieve the Developing Learner achievement level to be considered eligible for promotion.
These students have demonstrated partial proficiency of the grade level concepts and skills and can proceed to the next grade level when provided focused instructional support in the needed areas; their learning should be actively monitored to ensure their success.
Student who achieve the Beginning Learner require remediation and the opportunity to retest. These students need substantial academic support.

21. Cell Phones & Electronic Devices
Cell phones, smart watches, iPads or similar devices are not permitted in the testing room during testing.
Devices will be collected during homeroom and stored in our locked testing room until the testing session is over each day.
Students will not need these devices on testing days, so please remind students to leave these items at home during their grade level testing window.

22. Hall Monitors Needed
Hall Monitors are needed each of the testing days on multiple hallways to be available to notify administration if a classroom has a question or a need.
A shift would be for 3-4 hours and you can sign up for one or multiple days.
Lots of walking the hallway.
