BACKGROUND - CST is a NGO registered in the United Republic of Tanzania - The organization is working to ensure children with disabilities and other marginalized children receive all support services essential to enable them to access quality education in an inclusive setting - CST is now working with more than 175 children at its inclusive Early Childhood Assessment, Learning and Development Center (ECALD) Children First

VISION Tanzanian children and young people with disabilities and under privileged children are able to achieve their full potential and have access to equal rights in an inclusive society. MISSION To promote and raise awareness of the rights of children and young people with disabilities and under privileged children and to facilitate access to quality inclusive education. CST’s Objectives Children First
1. To develop and maintain a disability friendly school that offers quality inclusive education through professional teaching and support services. 2. Expand the size and reach of CST on a foundation of good governance, working in partnership with other stakeholders and through sustainable income generation. 3. To raise awareness and change perceptions of disability in the local community and to influence change in local government policies to mainstream disability issues. Children First

Involving Children: the Child to Child Methodology Children learn best when what they learn is not ‘stuck’ in the text books or the curriculum, but actually is something that they see in their daily lives. Children First

The ability to include children with disabilities comes from practice, from role models from community attitudes and actions. The Child-to-Child methodology helps children to relate what they know to what happens and how they behave in their homes and neighbourhoods Children First

The Child to Child Methodology Encourages the family and the community to act with the children to bring about changes that help to improve the situation of all children in the community. Children First

1. Children Participation in Identifying the Problem With the help of the teacher Children can Identify their friend with disability who is not going school Children First

2: Finding out With the help of the teacher children go and talk to their friends children with disability about what he or she need to be able to go to school. Children First

Cont…… 3: Planning an action The children plan what action they can take about the problem and how they will give the community the messages that they want to give them. Teachers helps them to decide which way will work best for taking the message to the community. Children First

Child Rights Clubs We guide children to create different activities to raise awareness about their rights and make other children understand that all children have equal rights despite of their abilities. We have Two family fun days inclusive play (sports and games) information about inclusion (Parents awareness) Parents Support Groups raise awarenes Public awareness (We invite Media) . Children First

OPEN/IMFORMATION DAYS
Open day at CST four times a year: 1. Open Discussion with government officials and media about Inclusive Education and Child to child Approach These days we also invite parents of children with disabilities who are not in school to come and gain knowledge and understanding about inclusive education and see it in practice. Child rights clubs has make many children to realise their rights and fight for it 4. Examination mode hinder Children with disabilities to proceed in higher level of Education 4. Lack of teaching Learning materials 5. Lack of Assessment tools for right placement Children First

Recommendation: If inclusive Education is to be achieved what we think should do
1. Change attitude to see a child and not disability: Children Teachers Parents Community 2. Government should ensure Teaching and learning materials are available and affordable e.g. Slate and stylus Children First

The government should change teachers trainings should start training teachers in inclusive education subjects so that we produce teachers who are ready to teach all children in an inclusive setting 4. Government should focus on inclusive education so that all schools can accommodate all children 5. changes in mode of examination so that children with disabilities can also proceed in another level of education.
