Respiratory System In Class Notes:
2
Function: (30.5) Function of the respiratory system
Provide oxygen for distribution to cells through the body removes waste products and carbon dioxide from the body
3
Organs Involved: (30.5) Organs involved and the function of each
Pharynx= where the passageways of air and food cross Epiglottis= covers the air pathway and provides water/food from entering when needed Larynx= voice box Trachea= windpipe Bronchi= air tubes that connect the long and trachea Lungs= function in the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide within the blood Bronchiole= thin tube that branches a bronchus within a lung Diaphragm= plays a key role in breathing
4
Sequence of breathing:
Explain the process of a complete breath: Inhale; diaphragm and rib muscles contract increase in lung volume, reducing air pressure within the alveoli Air moves from higher pressure to lower pressure-from mouth/nose filling the aveoli
5
Diagram: Here are all the parts:
6
Parts you should know: Can you find a blank one to practice labeling?
7
How is breathing regulated?
What organ controls it? What causes increases and decreases in rates?
8
What effects does smoking have on the respiratory system?
9
