2 These are the rules that will help you write the words correctly when you want to add the endings: ed – ing. When a word ends with “e”, drop the “e” before adding –ed or –ing. Example: b a k e b a k e d b a k i n g

3 2. When y is the only vowel at the end of a word, change
the “y” to “i” before adding –ed. There is no spelling change when adding –ing. Example: t r y t r i e d t r y i n g

4 2. When a word ends in a single consonant and the vowel
before it is short, double the consonant before adding -ed or -ing. Example: b e g b e g g e d b e g g i n g

5 Now, let's try to do an exercise.
Make a chart like this one on a piece of paper: Base word ed -ing head play charge discover carry

6 Add the endings –ed or –ing to form new words.
The first one is done for you. Base word -ed -ing head headed heading play charge discover carry drag

7 Check your answers. Base word -ed -ing head headed heading play played playing charge charged charging discover discovered discovering carry carried carrying drag dragged dragging
