Sustainability investigation
Kennedy Town 2017 Sustainability investigation
2
TO WHAT EXTENT Is Kennedy Town a sustainable community?
Remember! Your main task was to investigate the following question; TO WHAT EXTENT Is Kennedy Town a sustainable community?
3
Assessment at a glance As a group
You need to produce a display presentation. This should DISPLAY and EXPLAIN your findings. You should think carefully about the best way to present your ideas. You are being assessed on RO4 (Communicating Non-verbally). This work will give you a group assessment mark.
4
So what will your fieldwork report look like?
Your presentation must be a typed report to include the following headings: Introduction to your study Presentation and analysis of your results Conclusion
5
The following slides will take you through the instructions for how to complete each section.
All examples are from real GCSE coursework. They are only examples of styles you might like to use. They are on a totally different topic. Unique and individual ideas and styles can be very impressive as long as they are appropriate and effective.
6
1. Introduction to your study
This must include; A description of what a sustainable community is from the first lesson. An explanation of the Egan Wheel from the second lesson. A description of the study location plus 2-3 maps, showing the location of Kennedy Town within Hong Kong and a smaller scale showing the location of the 6 sites in Kennedy Town (this should have been done before trip). A brief overview of how Kennedy Town already is, or is trying to be, sustainable.
9
2. Presentation and Analysis of your results
This must include; Presentation- think about the most appropriate methods of displaying each set of results. These might include: bar chart, pie chart, choropleth map, photograph, leaflets collected, anything else that is unique!
10
Analysis- this means that you need to explain what your results mean.
You should also explain what your results mean for each section of the Egan wheel. It is up to you how you lay this out. If you are using graphs or photos, annotations around the image might be the clearest way of providing analysis. For other presentation methods, short paragraphs might be the best way. Use specific data numbers, place names, distances etc to be as accurate as possible.
11
Examples- how could you apply this style to your investigation
Examples- how could you apply this style to your investigation? Think perception survey!
12
How could you apply this style to your results
How could you apply this style to your results? Think perception survey- what data could the pie charts be? Think noise reading- how could it be presented on a map?
13
How could this style be used to present and analyse your results?
14
What data might this style be useful to show?
15
Field sketches are often very useful especially when done with a twist, for example here they have used photographs. How could you adapt this style of presentation? You need at least one annotated field sketch on your display.
16
Examples of graphs. How would you use them
Examples of graphs. How would you use them? What different styles could you use?
17
Annotated map style
18
3. Conclusion You must have a short paragraph which sums up your analysis. This should end with your answer to the question; ‘To what extent is Kennedy Town a sustainable community?’

Section Factors to be included Introduction Presentation Analysis
A description of what a sustainable community is. An explanation of the Egan Wheel. A description of the study location plus 2 maps- 1 showing the location of Kennedy Town within Hong Kong and 1 smaller scale showing the location if the 6 sites in Kennedy Town. A brief overview of how Kennedy Town already is, or is trying to be, sustainable. Presentation Ways of displaying data are appropriate and varied. These might include: bar chart, pie chart, choropleth map, photograph, leaflets collected, Field sketches- an annotated field sketch must be included which clearly identifies factors to support, or not, evidence of a sustainable community. Use a photo to help you sketch! Analysis Overall patterns are identified from the presented data. Full explanations are offered for these patterns. Evidence from the presented data is used to support any patterns or reasoning. There is a link to the relevant section of the Egan wheel. Conclusion There is a short paragraph which sums up the analysis . This should end with the answer to the question; ‘To what extent is Kennedy Town a sustainable community?’

Think TEAM WORK!! What is the most effective and efficient way to complete this study? Share the workload! Do people in your group have certain skills they are good at e.g. ICT, map skills etc. How will you use these skills? Set mini-deadlines within your group. If you have divided up the tasks, check each others work for spelling, grammar, content etc. Remember- you are all responsible for the quality of your group presentation!
