Organic Matter Preservation In Marine Environments: Insights From A Study Of Marine Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) Composition, Age And Source. R. de Jesus and L. I. Aluwihare Associated lipids and two sugar fractions released by acid hydrolysis of a DOM fraction are of marine origin in the estuary. However, the glucose-rich carbohydrate fraction (potentially derived from cellulose) appears to be primarily of terrestrial/river origin even in the estuary. This is the first demonstration that glucose in marine environments may be derived from an allocthonous source.
