What is NLP? And how can I use it?

Why are some therapists more successful than others?
What is NLP? NLP stands for Neuro (meaning brain) Linguistic (meaning Language) Programming NLP is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in California, United States in the 1970s Richard Bandler ask: Why are some therapists more successful than others? NLP is used by : Mental Health Professionals: to assist their clients Medical Practitioners: to establish greater rapport with patients Managers and Business people: enhance their communication skills, influence with integrity, build stronger teams, influence leaders Salespeople: learn how to quickly and effectively establish rapport, determine the client's needs and expectations. Athletes, Entertainers: learn how to focus on their desired outcomes, draw on their inner resources About 40 years ago people began to question why some folk when to a psychotherapist and got ‘better’ while others did not. A professor called Richard Bandlier started investigating and he, along with several others discovered 2 important things 1 – people heal themselves. I’m not talking about people who have chemical imbalances and need medication but most other folk who are maybe feeling a bit sad, lost, angry at someone or hurt about something that once happened to them The second thing – how their therapist communicated with them made all the different to how quickly they were ‘healed’. For some it took years and other other 4 or 5 sessions. Understanding this ‘way of communicating’ that helps people to help themselves is what NLP is all about. NLP is used in many settings today. Some therapists use it in counselling sessions to help people understand what’s holding them back and helping them see new opportunities. Business people use it improve their communication skills, influence people in a positive way, build stronger teams and manage their managers. Its used by salespeople to get customers to ‘like them’ – that’s called building rapport, and helping to figure out what customers need. Actors and Athletes around the world use NLP to focus on their goals and find their inner focus and resources. In fact everyone, everywhere uses many of its techniques without even realising it – most small kids are master practitioners of getting what they want from other people! Excellent Communication. Therapists who were able to ‘speak the language of the brain’ achieved better results. So they studied model to program to do so

How do we understand the world?
Everyone interprets the world in different ways; mostly by seeing (40%), hearing(40%) or feeling(20%) Visual (See) speak so fast as they see pictures They care about looks, Wont eat ugly food Often have wide imaginations Auditory (Hear) Enjoy words, may find it easy to remember phone numbers understands better by talking rather than reading easily distracted by noise Kinaesthetic (Feel) Speak slowly because they need to feel what they are saying they take emotional decisions best learn by trying and experiencing the situation

What we understand is clouded by our filters
Metamodels help you understand why you respond to events the why you do. Your brain uses filters to make sense of an event Deletion – when we selectively pay attention to certain aspects of our experience and not others. Deletion means we can overlook sensory information. Without deletion, we would be faced with much too much information to handle our conscious minds. Distortion occurs when we make misrepresentations of reality and justify our motivation Generalisation draw global conclusions based on our experiences. atch?v=e8CP0FbgmSY
