Crosswalk Project
2
INTRODUCTION The future advocates of Road Safety are the youth who struggle daily to protect themselves and their surroundings from road accidents. Our project this year is on a smaller scale, specifically in our community, our school.
3
Our challenge: to provide safe road crossing for our students.
After several brainstorming sessions with our advisor, we noticed that art has a great power to leave an impact on people. We contacted a Lebanese graffiti artist and collaborated with him to realize our project.
4
General Overview Road Safety has become a mandatory issue in our society. Road accidents have been taking the lives of our youth. Over 1.25 million people die each year on the roads.
5
General Overview Road Safety is much more than putting on your seat belt, respecting the speed limit and sticking to road signs. Road safety is taking care of others’ safety too.
6
The Brainstorming At Jesus & Mary School, our students come first and their safety is our duty. After some investigation, we noticed that students face difficulties crossing the road to school in the morning and in the afternoon because of the car traffic and some irresponsible drivers.
7
The Brainstorming our 10th grade students designed cross roads that facilitate their passage. Instead of designing ordinary zebra lines, we contacted a Lebanese artist called Hady Beydoun with whom we designed artistic cross roads Our aim was to grab the attention of students and thus encourage them to use safe crossing.
8
The Funds After gaining the municipality's approval and support, we made our calculations and estimated that the 2 crosswalks located at the 2 main gates of the school would cost around $1000 to come to life, and so we started searching for funds
9
The Funds Our event, "Feed the World" is a huge bake sale where groups of students represent different countries and prepare some traditional dishes from their assigned countries. Food, drinks, music, and even traditional costumes all contributed to bring to life to life the theme of cultural diversity.
10
The Funds Funds Feed The World : Students Bake Sale
Sponsors providing cash money : AUL University & Polygon FX
11
The Funds Through that event, and with the help of our sponsors, a Lebanese university and a local company, we were able to reach the budget
12
The Execution This phase was set to take place on Saturday, April 21, but we had to postpone 3 times due to bad weather conditions. However, we did not give up!! With our determination, we were able to finalize the crosswalks on Saturday May 19th, using stencils and paint.

The Thank You This whole initiative was a success thanks to the help of Mr. Beydoun and the hard work of the 1SB students and JM staff members who put a lot of effort into making it as creative and innovative as possible,in hope of making our school community a safe environment for all.
