5 of 18 October 10 is World Mental Health Day 1 in 5 workers have a mental health condition that they are managing. Only about 25% of people would tell their employer about their mental health problem. Stigma and fear of discrimination prevent people from reaching out to their employer for help. Let’s create a supportive work environment where we recognize signs and intervene and support each other in getting to the help we need.

7 of 18 When someone is struggling with a mental health problem we sometimes don’t know what to say or do.

8 of 18 5 tips on how to start the conversation with someone who may be struggling DON’T IGNORE THE SIGNS ASK: “Are you Ok?” or ”You don’t look like yourself, what’s going on?” LISTEN: with an open mind and heart. DON’T JUDGE or be critical of what they are feeling. If they don’t want to talk let them know “That is okay, I am ready to listen when they are ready to talk” or “Is there someone else you would rather talk to?”

9 of 18 CARE Have the courage to care for others. Ask someone how they are feeling and truly listen to them. Talk about it with others and please reach out if you are struggling!

10 of 18 PLAN If you see the signs that someone may be struggling have the courage to Intervene and Ask: “Are you OK?” Read the MINES for Minds poster for tips how to intervene and/or talk to mental health representatives

11 of 18 ACCEPT Sometimes we need some help with our mental health. It’s Ok to reach out for help and it is Ok to ask others if they need help! Look for signs in yourself and others around you and reach out to help them.
