INTRODUCTION The purpose of the Gauteng Area PBN Plan is to review procedures and to support PBN Implementation, in line with the ATM Roadmap and the National Airspace Master Plan. This will enhance Safety, improve efficiencies, Enhance conflict management and improve demand and capacity balancing while addressing environmental impact.

ATM PLANNING OBJECTIVE
ATM’s primary objective is to archive a performance-based interoperable national air traffic management system for all users during all phases of flights, that meets agreed-to level of safety ,provide for optimum economic operations, is environmentally sustainable and meets national security requirement .
6
TRIGGER FOR GAPP Traffic forecast indicates that traffic demand especially in the greater Gauteng Area has continued to steadily grow and that increases workload for both pilot and ATC. This necessitated ATM to come up with innovative steps to meet the traffic growth demand while meeting the required safety standards. The achievement of this objective is central in overcoming both the present and future challenges facing the air transport industry.

PROJECTED GAINS Although this project is still in the draft stages, the simulations done indicate positive savings in terms of track miles which then translate to fuel savings for the users. This means less CO2 emissions and less noise which supports our environmental initiatives. The following are indications of savings from our simulation exercises BEACON Current Time to landing GAPP Time in minutes Savings in minutes TAVLA 45.33 38.85 6.48 BEBAS 25.61 21.51 4.10

DESIGN CRETERIA These Approach Procedures will be designed in cooperating Continuous Climb Operations (CCO) and Continuous Descend Operations (CDO) in accordance with ASBU. Consultations with the ATM community will be properly conducted through the ATM/CNS Coordination Committee.
