There are three levels of Political culture
The System Level- National pride Feelings of governmental legitimacy National identity The Process Level- Role of citizens Perceptions of political rights The Policy Level- Role of government Government policy priorities Describe the three levels of political culture and the factors that make them different.

Inheriting the throne Religion: Commitment to religious institutions (ie, Iran) Elections: Open, free, fair elections Ideology: Wisdom from a party (ie, China) List and describe the different sources of legitimacy for a political system.

Nationalism Ethnic identity Class identity Religious identity Ideology Rights/duties to society -Most durable level -Direct from schools or other types of public education

Second level Attitudes towards politics and government -indirect
-from parents, teachers, friends -what does government do? -how do people react to the gov?

Of politics and politicians Of specific issues Of personalities Describe the agents of political socialization and their roles in forming political values.

Current forces affecting contemporary political cultures
Democratization- modernization eroded the legitimacy of nondemocratic ideologies in certain parts of the world… while citizens became more involved in policymaking via skills and political resources Marketization-an increased public acceptance of free markets and private profit incentives, rather than a government-managed economy Globalization-increasing international trade and international interactions tend to diffuse the values of the overall international system.
