2 Cranial cavity – holds the brain Spinal cavity – holds the spinal cord
Body Cavities The organs of your body are mostly found in 4 cavities or spaces. Cranial cavity – holds the brain Spinal cavity – holds the spinal cord Since both of these are found on the posterior portion of your body, they make up the Dorsal Cavity.

The anterior portion of the skull has some smaller cavities: Orbital cavity – holds the eyeball and eye muscles Nasal cavity – forms part of your nose and sinuses Buccal cavity – holds your teeth and tongue

Torso Cavities The anterior portion of the body or Ventral Cavity is divided into 2 cavities as well: 1. Thoracic cavity – located above the diaphragm; holds your lungs and heart This area is subdivided into: a left and a right pleural cavity. a mediastinum a central area.

7 2. Abdominopelvic cavity – located below
the diaphragm down to the bottom of the trunk. This area is subdivided into: 1. the abdominal cavity –the area below the diaphragm to the top of the hip bones. Organs: stomach, liver, most of the intestines, pancreas, spleen, and kidneys. 2. the pelvic cavity –the area from the crest of the hip bones down to the pelvic floor. Organs: portions of the intestines, reproductive structures, urinary bladder.

The abdomen is often divided into 4 regions. A horizontal line and a vertical line passing through the umbilicus divide the abdomen into: Right upper quadrant Left upper quadrant Right lower quadrant Left lower quadrant

11 Abdominal Regions (9) For the convenience of locating abdominal organs, the area is divided like a tic-tac-toe grid. Identified from right to left and from top to bottom, the regions are: Right hypochondriac, epigastric, left hypochondriac Right lumbar, umbilical, left lumbar Right iliac (inguinal), hypogastric, left iliac (inguinal)
