[Unobtrusive History] Historical Realism depends on believable and reasonably accurate setting and often includes actual historical people. BUT it is NOT history! When a writer provides background for readers including political and social history, customs, psychological attitudes, and the state of science and technology, he or she should make those information "not obvious (unobtrusive)". [Authenticity] Historical Realism must provide the authentic atmosphere that evokes the period. Otherwise, it will be considered as a contemporary times. In order to make Historical Realism faithful and believable, a writer needs to consider the sights, sounds, smells, and textures of the historical period. [Sensitivity] A writer of historical realism needs to view history with a new sensitivity to provide a balanced and intelligent viewpoint about the historical period.
