1 Teacher Web Pages Implications for Teachers
Class Assignments posted on the Internet Greater communication with students Easier, more accessible communication with home Raises levels of accountability, responsibility of students, teachers, and parents. Students, past novelty stage, still find the resource powerful (high learners:What’s coming up, am I ready? Lower-learners: Where are we? Stand-alone resource for review and reinforcement for all levels/abilities); Parents/guardian: communication 24/7.

2 Impact on Students “New technologies lead to increased interactivity.” –Kathy Schrock Interaction via with teacher, classmates increases skill levels Accountability: Lessons posted, resources listed, responses encouraged Shift from teacher- to student-centered. Self-directed activities lead to enhanced social skills, reliance on inter-dependence, greater self-esteem. High “time-on-task” expectations (built-in aspect); immediate response and gratification from teacher, other web sources (authors, research sites, etc.). On-line dialogue between T/S provides “carrot” for cyber-skill building. Teacher is facilitator, “technical consultant,” not transmitter of knowledge--observes students creating own meaning using the tools of technology.

3 Student Web Pages High interest learning tool produces greater participation in group projects Provides alternative to printed work Gratifying element: Personal achievement e-communication with peers and web resources to increase their own understanding Enthusiasm increases participation in group roles. Students with poor motor skills given opportunity to exhibit strengths using their various intelligences (Seven Intelligences). Product presentation: moment of pride (birthing); assessment tool for groups/teacher. Access to information is highly interactive and not necessarily sequential in lesson presentation (variety); students collaborate, debate in a less threatening atmosphere; lifelong learning (skills): Whether they like it or not, it is their future.
