Section 2.3 Solving Multi-Step Equations
Solve equations involving more than one operation. Solving equations using consecutive integers. SWBAT:

Definitions Multistep Equation: Consecutive Integers:
An equation that requires more than one step to solve Consecutive Integers: Are numbers in counting order: (3, 4, 5) or (n, n+1, n+2) Counting by 2 is called consecutive even integers if ‘n’ is even or consecutive odd integers if ‘n’ is odd.
4
Solve Each Equation 1. 11x – 4 = Try on your own: 1. 2a – 6 = 4
5
Real Word Example- pg 92 # 2A
1. A music store has sold 3/5 of their hip-hop CDs, but 10 were returned. Now the store has 62 hiphop CDs. How many were there originally?
6
Consecutive Integers – pg 92
Type Words Symbols Consecutive Integers Integers that come in counting order n, n+1, n+2 Consecutive Even Integers Even integer followed by the next even integer. n, n+2, n+4 Consecutive Odd Integers Odd integer followed by the next odd integer.
7
Example (n) + (n + 2) + (n + 4) = -51 (n) + (n + 1) + (n + 2) = 21
1. Find three consecutive odd integers with a sum of -51. (n) + (n + 2) + (n + 4) = -51 2. Find three consecutive integers with a sum of 21. (n) + (n + 1) + (n + 2) = 21
