© Presto Plans Read the paragraph below and find examples of metaphor, simile, onomatopoeia, personification, oxymoron and/or alliteration. Patrick sat down at the kitchen table and took his math homework out of his book bag. Math was a puzzle to Patrick. During class, he felt like a mathematician understanding the entire lesson with ease. However, when he attempted the practice questions at home, it showed that he clearly misunderstood the teacher’s instructions. Patrick’s pencil could always be heard scratching away at his work, but his eraser was definitely getting tired from constant correction. His cell phone calculator was working overtime this week in preparation for the end of unit test. Patrick prayed he would pass, but was pessimistic about the prospect of getting a 60%.

3 A Raisin in the Sun: Act 3 Today, we’re going to watch Act 3 of Raisin in the Sun! If you’d like to follow along, turn to page 562. Remember, this text is yours, so whenever we stop and talk about something important, you may want to write it down in your book – it’ll help you on your final.  Link:

4 A Raisin in the Sun: Final Project
For your final (20% of your grade!), you will produce a one-pager based on A Raisin in the Sun. A one-pager is a single-page response to the play. It is a way to communicate your understanding of the material in a unique way. A one-pager allows you to be creative and experimental. It gives you the opportunity to respond to your reading imaginatively and honestly.

5 A Raisin in the Sun: Final Project
Include all of the following activities on your one-pager: Make sure the title of the play (along with the author) is prominently displayed. Make a border with meaningful quotes from the play (three quotes minimum). Make sure you use quotes from the original text and provide the act, scene, and character who said the quote. Create three images that provide a “visual focus” on your one-pager. Your pictures should represent what you have visually in mind about the reading. These images could be a symbolic or literal representation of the theme or main idea of your reading. Choose a character and list at least three characteristics about him or her from what you have read. Find a creative way to do this: in a circle around the character’s name, surrounding an image you choose to reflect that character, etc. A personal statement about what you have read. What did the reading mean to you? What is your opinion, final thought, big question, or personal connection? Be sure to explain your response. (4-5 sentences) A theme statement: What is the theme of the reading? What was Hansberry trying to tell us? How do you know? (4-5 sentences) A Raisin in the Sun: Final Project

6 A Raisin in the Sun: Final Project
Things to Remember: All work must be done on one side of the page except for your name and block (those should be on the back). Be creative! Make your one-pager interesting to look at. Fully in color – if you use pencil to outline, make sure you go over it with marker or pen. No white space! If you have room, repeat one of the steps above. These are due on the day of your final: Thursday, 5/17
