Organizing and Analyzing Data
Why do we need to organize and analyze data? Account for student performance Recognize implications for instruction Determine next steps Create groups Differentiate instruction Ask the question, have teachers answer. 1 Click - answers will float in

Who would you be more concerned about?
BOY MOY 2 Clicks – MOY for Rihanna and MOY for Owen Compare Pie Charts of Rihanna vs. Owen Who should you be more concerned about? Click to show MOY Pie Charts. Look carefully and analyze the data. Ask teachers to interpret data. What are their observations? Although Rihanna is still low at 35%, she learned 7 new letters from the BOY (Oct.) to the MOY (Jan). Owen is higher at 58% but compare this result to his BOY. What do you notice? He has improved only by one point; did he learn just one new letter in 3 months? What should teachers do about it?

Post-its are recommended; a student who belongs to the blue group might have mastered the lesson faster than the others and can be moved to the next tier. In this example, King Cole (because his class standing (82) is relatively higher than Thumb and Horner) will (hypothetically) understand the skill faster and can be moved the orange group. Mother Hubbard might have difficulty keeping up with Simon and Peep (her class standing is relatively lower at (47) and needs more intense reinforcement/instruction and may be placed with the green group. Let’s Analyze Your Data
Work with a partner. Analyze your MOY pie charts. Choose a skill domain to focus on. Pull Class Totals Report and determine small groups. Use Small Group Planning Template to organize student groups and plan for differentiated lessons. Share with the class. Ask teachers to pair up; they will use their own class data (choose 1 subtest) for this activity. Follow instructions on the slide.
54
Process Review Summarize information learned today through a graphic organizer. Table Activity: Use a graphic organizer to show the steps in analyzing data in the creation of small groups.
