Algonkians lived in the Canadian Shield and Appalachian Mountain regions The soil was NOT FERTILE Not Fertile means not good for growing vegetables The land was rocky and had a lot of thick forest

The Algonkians did not farm like the Iroquoians They were hunters hunting animals and birds They were gatherers Gathering wild plants like berries They were fishers in the spring and summertime

Because they were hunters They had to follow animals they hunted They moved around from season to season Moving around from season to season is called NOMADIC Algonkians had a nomadic way of life

These groups were not as large as Iroquoian villages They needed homes that were not heavy and easy to carry The name of an Algonkian home is called a WIGWAM or TIPEE
