2 Population distribution
Population distribution- How a population is spread out over an area of land.

3 Factors that influence population distribution
Climate- weather patterns over a series of years Economic development- improving the economic well-being for a community by creating jobs and growing incomes. Government Policy-Law’s and a plan or course of action taken by government.

4 Factors that influence population distribution
Rural/Urban settlement patterns- Rural settlements often lack transportation and technology that is possessed by urban settlements. Capital Resources- Man made resources like technology & Transportation. Conflicts- Conflicts in a region often cause people to leave an area of conflict (warzone) and settle in a more peaceful place where they are known as a refugee.

5 Push and Pull factors A push factor is a reason for someone to leave a region. Ex- A dictator is killing everyone below 6 ft. tall. Pull factor- A reason for someone wanting to go to another region. Ex- I can make more money in America than I can in the Sahara Desert.

6 Push Factors Overpopulation Religious persecution
Lack of job opportunities Agricultural decline Conflict Political persecution Natural hazards (e.g., droughts, floods, famines, volcanic eruptions) Limits on personal freedom Environmental degradation

7 Pull Factors Religion Economic opportunity- opportunity to make more money. Land availability Political freedom Ethnic and family ties Arable land

8 Assignment: Follow all instructions for full credit
Find a partner so that you have ONE person to work with. Create a real life example for each of the push/pull factors listed on slides 6 & 7. Write your examples in COMPLETE SENTENCES. Turn in one sheet of paper with BOTH names on it when you are completed. Raise your hands if you have any questions.
