2 Figure 1 Endometriotic lesions. Spontaneous endometriosis in baboons (A) 3320 and (B) Induced endometriosis 5 months after endocervical and horn resection in baboons (C) Aa3255 and (D) Aa3402. Induced endometriosis in baboon (E and F) Aa3354 (biopsy taken 9 months after endocervical and horn resection). Induced endometriotic lesions in baboons (G) Aa2940 and (H) Aa3389 after 12 months. 3 Supplemental Figure 1 Perineal stages in relation to perineal swelling (assumed units). The cycle is divided into seven stages. Progressive inflation of the perineum throughout the cycle correlates with follicular growth (turgescent stages 1–5) and subsequent deflation with the luteal phase (stage 6/deturgescent and 0/flat). Peak sex skin coloration and tumescence lasts from 1 to 9 days, and ovulation occurs during stages 4–5 on approximately the third day preceding sex skin deturgescence. The menstrual phase is referred to as stage 7. Menstruation begins approximately 2–4 days before the onset of perineal turgescence and lasts approximately 2–5 days (adapted from Higham et al. [25] and D’Hooghe et al. [27]). Fertility and Sterility  , e3DOI: ( /j.fertnstert ) Copyright © 2011 American Society for Reproductive Medicine Terms and Conditions

5 Supplemental Figure 3 Endocervical canal resection by removal of a portion of the (A) cervix by cauterization and of the (B) cervical canal before suture in two separate areas to avoid recanalization (B). (C) Hematometra (baboon Aa3255). (D) Puncture of chocolate-colored fluid. (E) Spread of chocolate-colored fluid into the abdominal cavity after puncture. (F) Hematometra/chocolate-colored fluid (biopsy taken 5 months after endocervical and horn resection, hematoxylin and eosin, ×10).
