Figure 1 The shelterin complex protects telomeres from DNA damage signaling and repair. At mammalian telomeres, the presence of shelterin (A) ensures genome integrity by repressing DNA damage signaling and repair, promoting semi-conservative replication of the telomeric DNA, and regulating telomerase-mediated telomere maintenance.
