NATA Foundation Research Mentor Program Process
Notes The purpose of the research mentor program is to provide guidance & mentorship to junior faculty members involved in athletic training research. The Research Mentor Program pairs promising investigators with established researchers who can provide guidance, advice and assistance in navigating both the research and the grant writing processes. The goal is to form a relationship to help the mentee build a solid knowledge base and acquire and understanding of the balance necessary to becoming a successful researcher. Send out announcement that applicants are sought for the NATA Foundation Research Mentor Program (February) Send out announcements the mentor are sought for the NATA Foundation Research Mentor Program (February) Each mentor and mentee will work together to set expectations for the relationship. Potential ways a mentor can assist his/her mentee include: Advice (phone calls/ ) Grant review or assistance (confidential review) Manuscript review or assistance (confidential review) Technical assistance Hosting the young investigator at his/her facility Research or other Fellowship Active collaboration on a project or grant (co-investigator) Develop database of individuals who have expressed interest to serve as mentors Research Mentor Program Process continues

Mentor & mentee parings are finalized by late March/Early April Mentor Program Luncheon is held at NATA Annual Meeting in June 30 minute presentation on what to expect as a faculty member, including strategies for balancing the demands of research with work, family and other obligations 10 minute informational talk about the Mentor Program 20 minute networking session to allow mentors and mentees to meet in-person and establish goals Thanks for your interest in the NATA Foundation Research Mentor Program!
