Key indicators for precision requirements: Participation rate in non-formal education Participation rate in non-formal education by gender Participation rate in non-formal education by 3 age groups (25-34, 35-49, 50-64) Participation rate in non-formal education by 3 ISCED levels ISCED1+2+3C short programmes (<2 years) ISCED 3A,B, 3C long programmes (>=2 years) ISCED 5+6 Participation rate by employment status (employed, unemployed, inactive) Share of job-related activities in non-formal education Education and Training Statistics Working Group

The precision requirements: Half length of the confidence interval at 95% to be at most equal 2.5% That means (1537 individuals for each of the 3 ages group) total sample size 4600 individuals per country. In countries with the low participation rate (confidence interval of ±20%) there is a need to increase of the sub-sample (minimum size about individuals) of participating individuals Education and Training Statistics Working Group

Funding: The new grant policy in Eurostat allow grants for capacity building of new instruments Consequently only the additional costs incurred by a MS can be taken into consideration. Education and Training Statistics Working Group

Future plans: AES pilots Task Force, which should: assist countries in the implementation of pilots for the AES, provide a forum for exchange of experience both for the preparatory phase and for the pilot evaluation phase. Countries planning to pilot AES in 2005 will be the first to be invited to participate. Other countries may also attend if they express such an interest 1st meeting of the TF in April 2005 Education and Training Statistics Working Group

ETS WG participants are asked to: revise and update the information concerning national plans of implementation of the survey accept the calculation method for the sample size and through this for the cost of the survey revise and update the information concerning cost of the survey based on precision requirement and sample size Education and Training Statistics Working Group

declare their need for financial support : in case new instruments have to be implemented for the first time or additional sources are needed in order to comply with the European AES requirements Education and Training Statistics Working Group
