Group of words with a SUBJECT and a VERB I like books because they are enjoyable. INDEPENDENT CLAUSE Has a SUBJECT and a VERB Stands alone as a COMPLETE THOUGHT Because it is warm, spring is my favorite season. DEPENDENT CLAUSE Has a SUBJECT and VERB INCOMPLETE thought ADVERB CLAUSE DEPENDENT CLAUSE used like an ADVERB – tells when or why I fell down after I ran around in circles. ADJECTIVE CLAUSE DEPENDENT CLAUSE used like an ADJECTIVE – tells which one or what kind The girl who is sitting in front of me fell asleep. NOUN CLAUSE
