Bell work – 5 mins List one fact you learned from your
research yesterday. Pencil only (lab today) I will stamp bell work when you’re ready

I can model and explain how fossil fuels are formed.
Learning target I can model and explain how fossil fuels are formed. Today I am… modeling the formation of fossil fuels. So that I’ll be able to… understand the conditions in which they form. I’ll know I’ve got it when… I can model and explain the creation of coal, oil, and natural gas.
3
What we already know… Fossil fuels are natural fuels that formed over millions of years from the remains of living organisms.
4
The formation of fossil fuels is determined by:
What we already know… The formation of fossil fuels is determined by: time heat pressure type of organism
5
Today’s lab: Modeling fossil fuel formation
This lab is self-guided!

What we need to know… Sediment - Small, solid pieces of material that comes from rocks or organisms. Sedimentary rock - A type of rock that forms when sediments from other rocks or the remains of plants and animals are pressed and cemented together.

What we need to know… Fossil Fuel Formation Video
Sand (cheerios) is loose material having particle size between silt and pebbles (1/16 to 2mm). When held together by chemical cement or by clay, they are called sandstone. (fruit loops) Shale (corn flakes) is a fine-grained, clastic sedimentary rock composed of mud that is a mix of flakes of clay minerals and tiny fragments (silt-sized particles) Fossil Fuel Formation Video
