5 Little Speckled Frogs A multi-media presentation to accompany the popular counting song to promote one-to-one correspondence, numeral recognition and counting skills. By Claire Barnes, Willow Dene School

5 Little Speckled Frogs Click to make the first frog appear. Spend time discussing the numeral and/or the number of spots on his bib. Continue clicking to make each frog and it’s associated numeral to appear. Click to make the flies appear. You will need to click in each fly individually. These give both an audio cue into the quantity and demonstrate one to one correspondence. Discuss the number of flies the children can see and/or which numeral they settle next to, when the children are familiar with the song. This could be extended by discussing how many more flies may be on their way. Start singing the song: Five little speckled frogs, sat on a speckled log Eating some most delicious bugs (click to make frog eat the fly) Yum, yum One jumped into the pool (click to make frog jump in) Then there were only … Discuss how many frogs are left. Which one do the students think might jump in next? Why? Continue singing, as above. Click when all of the frogs have jumped in to make the numeral 0 appear.
