3 Tri-County Youth Services Bureau
The Tri-County Youth Services Bureau (TCYSN) is a non-profit 501(C)3 organization serving the children, youth, and families of Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties. Services are focused on the prevention of delinquency, abuse, violence, substance abuse, suicide, and other devastating outcomes for youth and their families. TCYSB is a member of the Maryland Association of Youth Services Bureaus (MAYSB) and the Maryland Association of Non Profit Organizations (MANO).

4 Original Request for the Project
Create a development plan to address the difficulties encountered by non- profit Boards all competing for the same: Board members Funding/Contributions Community Support The plan should include processes to: Recruit board members Mentor and orient new board members to promote retention and participation Create and maintain stability within the Board structure Create a marketing and fundraising plan

5 Meetings with TCYSB Leadership
To better define the project scope and objectives, we met with the following TCYSB leadership to determine the weaknesses with the current Board structure and to assess key priorities among the leadership of the organization: Steve Cricchi, President of the Board of Directors Laurel T. James, Executive Director Donna Millar, Board Member

6 Summary of the Project Following our analysis of the information we gathered from leadership, we defined the scope of our project to include the following deliverables upon completion: Board Member Recruitment and Retention Plan Revised By-Laws Board Member Roles and Responsibilities Plan Establishment of a professional services resource for non-profit Boards Future considerations for implementation

7 Summary of Research and Processes
To ensure that we provided the best possible guidance to TCYSB within the defined scope of our project, we conducted extensive research in the area of non-profit Boards of Directors, relative to member recruitment, retention, governance and shared resources. Specifically we: Reviewed other nonprofit documents Consulted with other nonprofit leadership Researched non profit resources

Board Member Recruitment and Retention Plan (Chrisie) Detailed process and procedure to recruit, retain and orient new members Includes multiple appendices with templates and implementation tools Revised By-Laws (Chelsea) Updated for consistency with corporate mission and documents Incorporates board member roles and responsibilities Board Member Roles and Responsibilities Plan (Maria) Establishes clear and concise expectations for Board members Creates governance consistency and structure for the organization Establishment of Professional Services Hub (Jacki) Creates pro-bono resource for professional services for all non-profit Boards Overseen by the Non-Profit Institute to ensure accessibility and longevity Future Considerations (Chris) List of recommended considerations not within the defined scope of our project Includes establishment of SOMD Non-Profit Board Network on LinkedIn
