2 Warm Up What are your interests and talents? Write an essay (1-2 paragraphs) describing how these interests and talents might play a role in your future?

3 Personal identity Sense of yourself as a unique individual.
Developing your personal identity has many different parts but is one of the most important tasks you will accomplish during your teen years!!! Who are YOU????

4 How Identity Forms Role model: someone whose success or behavior serves as an example for you Your identity will change throughout your life as your interests change!!!

5 Aspects of Identity Personality: complex set of characteristics that makes you unique Character: the distinctive qualities that describe how a person thinks, feels, and behaves Good character is demonstrated by core ethical values such as responsibility, honesty, and respect

8 Working Towards a Positive Identity
Recognize your strengths and weaknesses Demonstrate positive values Develop a purpose in your life Form meaningful relationships Avoid unhealthful high-risk behaviors Contribute to the community

9 Constructive Criticism
Non-hostile comments that point out problems and encourage improvement Positive way to give meaningful suggestions without judging how a person performed that task!!

10 Guided Practice With a partner you will complete a role-play conversation in which a teen experiences a disappointing situation or event. You may choose a situation from the phone booth scenario sheet or make up your own between your partner. In one role-play, the teen must respond with negative self-talk. In another role-play the teen must respond with positive self-talk! Each person must write a paragraph comparing the negative self-talk role-play to the positive self-talk role-play. What did the negative self-talk role plays have in common? What did the positive self-talk role-plays have in common? How might what you learned in this activity help you talk to yourself in a more positive way in the future in the midst of a tough situation?

List an important long term goal you have. 6. List 3 POSITIVE words that describe your personality. LOTS OF COLOR. DESCRIBE EACH CLEARLY.
