SS7G4: The student will describe the diverse cultures of the people who live in Africa

2 Ashanti Culture and Religion
Major ethnic group living in Ghana in western Africa. Their religion is a mixture of supernatural and spiritual powers. They believe that plants, animals and trees have souls. They live in an extended family in homes. Kente is their well known, hand-woven ceremonial cloth that represents history, ethic, oral literatures, and religious principles.

3 Bantu Culture Archaeologist place the Bantu people around Angola about 50,000 BCE About 60 million modern day Africans can trace their language back to those Bantu of long ago. Some believe Bantu is more of a language than culture group. Many Bantu, whether Christian or Muslim, retain their beliefs that precede both those religions. They believe in the power of both magic and curses.

4 Swahili Culture and Religion
They are Muslims who live in a narrow strip of land from northern Kenya to Tanzania, also inhabiting several nearby islands. Arab culture plays a vital part of their culture Parents recognize the value of education Muslims must wash before they eat, so access to clean water is critical. Relatively have a high standard of living Language reflects Bantu and Arab roots. “Jambo” means “hello” in Swahili.
