Building Dreams and Community Instructions: Update the title of the presentation to something like “Libraries in Lee County” or “The Lee County Public Library”…. Something that works for the type of library that you run. The tag line can also be replaced if desired. Script: Welcome the audience and do a quick personal introduction. Thank you for allowing me to speak to you today about your library. I think I’ll be able to provide valuable details about what we do that will help inform your decision making and also demonstrate how valuable our library is to the community. 11/24/2018

Our Mission We are here for the people of Your County. Anytown Public Library Everywhere Public Library Village Public Library Instructions: Replace the text for Your County with the service area of your library and a list of all of the branches as relevant. If your library has a mission statement, include it, replacing the text of “We are here for the people….” Script: This is how the library plans to respond to the community's needs. Let’s talk more specifically about how we carry out our mission in the community. 11/24/2018

The Your Library Name provide books, videos, CDs, DVDs... and knowledgeable library staff to help find and use them X items were checked out last year--which would have cost users $ X! X % of browsers surveyed said they found something at the library. Instructions: Replace the text for “Your Library Name” and update the slide with specifics about the circulation or results from a survey that are relevant to your library. Script: The library buys new books, magazines, videos, books-on-tape and CDs (and DVDs) for everyone in the community to check out and enjoy. Library staff are good at helping you find something you will like. During the past year, library customers checked out x items. Had the customers had to buy all of these materials, the cost to them would have been $x. In a recent survey, we found out that x customers found something they liked or were looking for at the library--which says to us that we are doing a good job of selecting books and other materials. 11/24/2018

4 Your Library Name help the public be smart information consumers
Citizens of the county visited the library an average of X times each month. X people, on average, used the libraries’ computers each day. X classes taught X people how to effectively find and evaluate information online. Instructions: Replace the text for “Your Library Name” with the name of your library. Update the statistics with real data about your library services and usage rates. Script: Libraries are open to everyone to use. Whether it’s getting the latest bestseller or finding important information that you need, we can help. Folks in “Anytown” come to the library around x times each month. About x customers use our computers every day to find the latest news, their grandchildren, do homework, write resumes or follow their favorite sports team. One important job for the library staff is to help our library customers deal with the information explosion. We can help you locate and evaluate information which answers your everyday questions, like what refrigerator should I buy, or where should I go on vacation, or what would be the best college for my kid. Last year we taught x people in x classes how to use the computer to find information. 11/24/2018

5 Libraries have books and other materials on a variety of topics and will help you find whatever you need, on any topic. X% of people looking for a specific item were able to get the item the same day; X% received the item within 3 days. Library patrons have X books, and X videos, DVDs and tapes available to them. Instructions: Script: Our library materials cover many topics. Our staff can help you find books and other materials on everything from soup to nuts. Thanks to the new materials we’re able to buy every year and to the wide range of magazine articles available to us through EBSCOhost, almost all of our library customers can find an answer to their question or what they need when they’re looking for it. And if they can’t we’ll find it for them at another library. Our library has x books, x videos, x books on tape, and x DVDs for the citizens of Anytown to use. 11/24/2018

6 How did all that happen? X experienced, dedicated library staff worked x hours last year to: help find answers to your questions select, order, and get materials ready to check out help people find and check out x materials provide x programs for x people, including x children in x story times ensure that the county has safe, comfortable libraries. Instructions: Replace the X marks with details about your library staff and the specifics about your services. Script: It is the library staff that makes this library what it is. Last year, our x staff worked x hours to give you high quality library service. We know how to find information whether it’s in books, magazines or on the Internet. It’s an information jungle out there. Let a librarian be your guide. We chose and ordered new books and other library materials, and got them on the shelves so you could check them out. Not sure what you want to read? Ask us. Librarians are good at suggesting books you will like. We planned and presented programs for library customers of all ages. x number of people attended x programs. This included x kids coming to x story times. Some of our most popular programs were: (fill in blank here) Your library is open x number of hours a week. Subscribe to x magazines & newspapers Subscribe to X online databases Instructions: Update the slide specific details about your library’s collection, including purchases of books, magazines and databases. Consider including online resources that are made available by regional services providers or the state. Script: In order to meet the needs of our library customers, during the coming year we plan to purchase x books and other materials and have x magazines and newspapers available. We plan to continue to subscribe to the databases (include name if applicable) in order to bring the world of online information to Your Library Name. And we will continue to participate in our statewide resource sharing programs which allow you to use materials from other libraries 11/24/2018

9 Staff X FTE to: acquire and make materials available
assist the people of the county in finding materials and information to build their dreams manage the facilities, to make the libraries welcoming! Script: Update the X mark with the number of FTEs that the library actually has or is requesting. Instructions: As I mentioned earlier, our library staff make it all happen. They are the most important ingredient of our library. We must have x full time equivalent staff to allow us to continue to select and buy materials, answer your questions and take care of our building. 11/24/2018

10 What does it cost to make it happen?

Just be sure to express what the number means. Script: Of course, we can't make these happen without financial resources. We can squeeze more out of a dollar than most anyone, but it still takes money to make it happen! The library is a bargain, at $ 11/24/2018

Update the text of the lines to reflect actual funding sources. Modify the script as appropriate for your situation. Script: Revenues for libraries come from several sources, although the city provides the majority of the funds. This slide shows you our projection of needed funds for next year. 11/24/2018
