Italics Italics show special words that the author wants you to notice. For example: There is a small new kid

Glossary A glossary is at the end of a book and tells you the meaning of a word. For example: The Statue of Liberty: a monument in New York City

Table Of Contents A table of contents shows you the titles of chapters and the page number they start on. For example : Cats pg 12 Dogs pg 20

Colored Font Colored words are words that the author wants you to notice. For Example: My best friend Stephanie is pretty.

Bold Words A bold word is a word that some people might not know. It also is a word that the author wants you to notice. Example : The boy is starving.

Title A title is on the cover of a book and tells you about the book. For Example: The Best of Figure Skating

Labels A label is a word by a picture that describes it. Example: Kangaroo

Index An index comes at the end of a book. It tells where to find specific topics. It is in abc order. Example: Penguins pg 23

Captions A caption is a sentence or two to tell you about the picture. Example: Fireworks are fire and light.

Pronunciation Guide A pronunciation guide is in the glossary and tells you how to pronounce a word. Example : pol-e-gon

Word To Know Box A word to know box is a place on the page to tell you what words means. Example: Words To Know Box An Orangutan is a orange ape.
