2 Presentation Roadmap My Background Office Composition
My Role within IBM Vision for the Project My Role within the Project Project High Level Overview System Interaction Process Drill Down Results Questions A pot file is a Design Template file, which provides you the “look” of the presentation You apply a pot file by opening the Task Pane with View > Task Pane and select Slide Design – Design Templates. Click on the word Browse… at bottom of Task Pane and navigate to where you stored BlueOnyx Deluxe.pot (black background) or BluePearl Deluxe.pot (white background) and click on Apply. You can switch between black and white background by navigating to that pot file and click on Apply. Another easier way to switch background is by changing color scheme. Opening the Task Pane, select Slide Design – Color Schemes and click on one of the two schemes. All your existing content (including Business Unit or Product Names) will be switched without any modification to color or wording. Start with Blank Presentation, then switch to the desired Design Template Start a new presentation as Blank Presentation You can switch to Blue Onyx Deluxe.pot by opening the Task Pane with View > Task Pane and select Slide Design – Design Templates. Click on the word Browse… at bottom of Task Pane and navigate to where you stored BlueOnyx Deluxe.pot (black background) and click on Apply. Your existing content will take on Blue Onyx’s black background, and previous black text will turn to white. You should add your Business Unit or Product Name by modifying it on the Slide Master You switch to the Slide Master view by View > Master > Slide Master. Click on the Title Page thumbnail icon on the left, and click on the Business Unit or Product Name field to modify it. Click on the Bullet List Page thumbnail icon on the left, and click on the Business Unit or Product Name field to modify it. Click on Close Master View button on the floating Master View Toolbar You can turn on the optional date and footer fields by View > Header and Footer Suggested footer on all pages including Title Page: Presentation Title | Confidential Date and time field can be fixed, or Update automatically. It appears to the right of the footer. Slide number field can be turned on as well. It appears to the left of the footer. IT 215 Analysis and Design Techniques 11/24/2018

6 Vision for the Project What did they want?... And what did we do?
Museum had just undergone an $858M renovation Great focus was put on integrating technology seamlessly within the building and it’s exhibits; blending art and technology IBM had installed and deployed the museum's infrastructure for their wired/wireless network and audiovisual system IBM had sold a great deal of hardware and had included a deal for services which was given to my office Chicago Innovation Center (and several partners) had recently successfully completed a Digital Guide/Web-based project involving museums/archeological sites in Egypt IT 215 Analysis and Design Techniques 11/24/2018

7 Vision for the Project Museum’s Goals:
The idea was to leverage what was learned from the Digital Guide portion of the Eternal Egypt project and build a new system from the ground up for one the museum’s new exhibits that would be on show upon it’s grand re-opening IBM Goals: Deliver a solution that meets the client’s expectations and gives us the potential for further work with the client in the future Build an updated version of the Museum Digital Guide System that not only could be used at the current client (museum) but with future clients after minimal cosmetic and data changes Museum’s Goals: Deliver a seamlessly integrated multimedia experience for visitors Collect demographic information on visitors and data on their digital guide tour activity (what parts of the exhibit they spent time at, and for how long) Utilize current technologies to set a benchmark for future museum offerings to be compared to; want to lead the push for “modernization” in museums IT 215 Analysis and Design Techniques 11/24/2018

8 My Role within the Project
Acting as Developer I came onto the project right after development had started Project conception and design were already complete Development was split in two halves: Flash based development for the Digital Guide Tour to be run on Toshiba Pocket PCs (PDAs) Java based development for the Administration System to be run on a laptop at a desk where the Digital Guides would be checked out/in I worked on the development of the Administration portion of the system Developed within J2EE Struts framework The Administration system handled checking in/out guides, collecting user demographics for reporting, logging in/out users and visitors, and tracking the status of each digital guide Since the system was small we used a laptop at the museum as the server, data store, and point of connection for the Digital Guides IT 215 Analysis and Design Techniques 11/24/2018

12 Results Project was delivered on time for museum’s grand reopening
Digital Guide System ran successfully for the duration of the exhibits showing Complications: Issues with the current audio/visual media vendor and their relationship with the museum created display and placement problems Since this was viewed as a pilot for the museum, it was discontinued after the exhibit ended showing Future Outlook: The Digital Guide system created has now been used as a building block for future projects Many museums both in the US and abroad are looking to IBM to potentially utilize this particular system Possibility for the creation of a Content Management System to allow the museum to create their own tours to be added to the system Enhanced functionality could be added for alerts, directions, and web interaction (review or create a tour from home) IT 215 Analysis and Design Techniques 11/24/2018
