What does it do? The ESA’s purpose is to protect and recover endangered species and their ecosystems. Each species is listed as “endangered”, in danger of extinction in all of a large amount of its range, or “threatened”, likely to be endangered in the near future. All plants and invertebrates are eligible for protection Provides funding for the preservation of habitats of endangered species and prohibits Federal agencies from carrying out actions that would harm an endangered species or it’s habitat.
