1 Heat and Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions

2 Heat Heat is a type of energy that can be transferred.
Heat is measured by temperature. Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of all particles in a substance.

3 Exothermic Reactions All chemical reactions have the potential to be exothermic or endothermic. Exothermic reaction= A chemical reaction that produces/releases heat. An exothermic reaction transfers energy from the reactants to the surroundings. The energy that was stored in the reactants is released and makes the molecules of the surrounding move faster and faster, making it hotter and hotter.

4 Endothermic Reactions
Endothermic reaction= A chemical reaction that absorbs heat. An endothermic reaction transfers energy from the surroundings into the reactants. The energy that is in the surrounding particles are absorbed during this reaction and is used to make the bonds of the new chemicals, making the particles slow down and the temperature to become colder and colder.
